Information for visiting Stockholm for the first time!

There is great information on Visit Sweden for people visiting!

But we have also outlined some additional info below.

Transportation to and from airport:

  • Arlanda Express - quickest to central station: https://www.arlandaexpress.com/

  • Taxi - most convenient to get to where you're going. To avoid getting scammed, please use one of the "main" companies: Taxi Stockholm, Taxi Kurir, SverigeTaxi. They also have apps if you want to pre-order to the airport. Cost for one taxi would be ~800 SEK.

Transportation in the city:

  • SL: trains and busses. You can use contactless cards/apple pay for one time tickets, or purchase day/week pass in their app.

  • Walk - Stockholm is a very walkable town where some streets are even closed of for pedestrians only.

  • Bike or scooter - download one of the many apps to instantly rent a bike or scooter near you. There are clearly marked bike lanes which take you throughout the city in an easy way! Examples: RideMovi (bikes and scooters), Bolt (cabs and scooters), Uber (cabs and "Lime" scooters), Voi (scooters)

Other things to note

  • Cash is not king! Most places in Stockholm and Sweden may not even accept cash, but rather prefer digital payments. Therefore, no need to withdraw money (unless you want to check out our cool bills!)

  • What you see if what you get! When you order in a restaurant or buy something in a store, everything is baked into the prize! Tipping is not expected at restaurants (unless you want to thank the waiter/waitress for a great service). Tax is also already included in all prizes.

  • Stock-up! If you want to buy alcohol - you will need to go to the state-run liquor store Systembolaget. The opening hours are limited, prizes are quite high, and none of the drinks are chilled.

  • Swedes eat the most candy in the world per capita! Don't miss the pick n' mix section of the grocery store to experience candy heaven!
